I am a Ph.D. candidate in Sociology at Emory University. I’m interested in sociology of professions, medical sociology, the sociology of knowledge, and science and technology studies (STS).

My dissertation focuses on the institutional coexistence of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and biomedicine in contemporary China. I examine how states intervene in professional systems, and how such interventions reshape relations among competing forms of expertise.

Before turning to medical sociology, I conducted research on professional ethics. My previous work investigated the moral dilemmas faced by Chinese journalists working across state and commercial media outlets.

Across these projects, I am motivated by one central question: What happens when political institutions attempt to shape expert systems? Based on the empirical cases of contemporary China, I seek to develop theoretical arguments that speak to broader debates in sociology.
